Born and raised on a farm in Muskoka, Ontario, Greg May came to Toronto to pursue a career as a police officer. As a way to pay for school, Greg began to dabble in the modeling industry. It was at that time Greg decided not to become an officer and to pursue the fashion/modeling industry, enrolling in an Image Consulting program at Sheridan College.
After being hand picked by an agent and modeling for a few years, Greg grew tired of the instability of the profession. Wanting to stay within the fashion industry, Greg became an apprentice hair stylist at Vidal Sassoon where he trained and worked as an apprentice. After finishing his apprenticeship, he quickly moved up the ranks from Junior Stylist to Senior Stylist and in 1994, became Creative Director. In 1996, he moved to 94 Avenue Road Salon and worked there for four years before becoming a partner in the newly named salon, Glo. In November 2003, Greg decided it was time to make the leap into running his own salon called Greg May Hair Architects.
Greg combines his two passions in life, the art of architectural hair design and martial arts into his daily routine at the salon. Having studied martial arts for more than 10 years, he is a black belt in karate/kung fu and strongly believes in the balance of calmness and consciousness in society's stress-driven lives. He approaches each client (existing or new) with an open mind and actually hears what his client wants. He analyzes his client's bone structure, lifestyle and personality and then proceeds to create a fresh new cut and perhaps colour, utilizing the most up-to-date techniques such as texturizing, stroking, slicing, bias, point and no-thumbs cutting to name just a few.
Greg's passion and total dedication to the art of hair is unequalled. He is constantly upgrading his skills, constantly learning cutting edge techniques in the pursuit of perfection. Greg's commitment to the salon, the team and his clients is unparalleled. He holds classes weekly and encourages them to become the stylists and colourists they are today.
Greg and the salon have been featured in the media including Canadian Living, Fashion, Fashion 18, Elle Canada, Glow, Homemakers, Elevate, Zoomers, Sweetspot, Metro and MuchMusic.
Chris is a seasoned veteran in the hair industry with 28 years in the hair industry. From 1993 to 2000 he worked at Icon on Bloor Street, then Glo Salon from 2001 to 2003. In November 2003, he was the first stylist to work at Greg May Hair Architects. Along with his classical training, he know incorporates Paul Mitchell colour and cutting techniques.
Chris' editorial work has appeared in Flare, Chatelaine, Elm Street and NOW Magazine.
When Chris isn't working, he is very passionate about playikng guitar and writing music along with scuba diving.
April has been part of the Greg May team and doing hair since 2003. She excels in colour correction and colour-cutting (a technique used that requires a specific colour placement to compliment a haircut). Upon meeting a new guest she will spend time discovering who they are so she can give the best possible colour and or cut to compliment their own personal style. April has been trained by Greg May and has been fortunate enough to travel with him to elite events to be trained by industry icons such as Robert Cromeans, Takashi Kitamura and Errol Douglas.
Hi! I'm Mike and my story started back in Massechusetts, where I was born and raised. As a son of a barber, I spent a lot of time in my mom's shop, sweeping hair, running the register and talking about the Red Sox. Although I hadn't quite clued in to my passion for hair, I would always spend as much time as I could there, I just loved the shop environment.
During high school I was lucky enough to have opportunities to spend time in Japan, China and Spain, and developed a love for languages that brought me to Toronto to study linguistics and Japanese at the University of Toronto. I enjoyed the time I had in school but realized I wasn't an academic and that I just really wanted to do hair, so I studied through the summers to finish my bachelor's degree in three years so I could move on to getting into the hair business.
I found Greg May Hair Architects in July of 2008 and since then have been working with Greg and his wicked awesome team to learn and explore the exciting world of hairstyling.
Born in Alberta, raised in Toronto, hair has been an interest in Serena's life. Currently she is enjoying coordinating appointments, keeping the stylists organized and greeting new and regular clients everyday.
While attending high school, she had to opportunity to explore hairstyling. At a young age, she graduated from her studies and started with Greg at Glo Salon. After 4 years, Serena decided to take some time off for herself and her husband. One year later she received a call from her friend Greg inviting her to join his own team at Greg May Hair Architects. She accepted instantly and has been growing and learning ever since.
